NUCA Action Scales Back Damaging Paid-Leave Proposal: More Work Remains in Senate
The U.S. House scaled back their expansive paid-leave proposal following strong pressure from NUCA and other business organizations that many companies would be unable to meet obligations during this economic crisis. The new measure would force employers to offer paid leave only to employees caring for a child whose school or daycare had been closed. However, the bill (H.R. 6201) now being considered by the U.S. Senate still leaves too much liability on employers who unknowingly have an employee infected with the virus. Because the Senate is still reacting to these fast-moving events, the bill is still changing minute-by-minute. NUCA is working with our coalitions to protect our members in the final version of the bill.
